VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - Hundreds of protests in support of immigrant families took place all over the country today, including here in Southwest Georgia.

In Valdosta, people gathered to protest President Donald Trump and his administration's zero-policy toward undocumented immigrants.

That policy has separated thousands of children from their parents in recent weeks.

Tom Hochschild, the rally organizer in Valdosta, says even though their city is small, they are sending a big message.

"We want to educate people about the plate of documented and undocumented immigrants. Many people are not aware of the racism that documented immigrants experience, and even more people are unaware of the trials and tribulations experienced by undocumented immigrants who come to this country risking their life to try to find a better life for their family," says Hochschild.

At the rally, organizers also handed out voter registration forms.

They accepted donations for the South Georgia Immigration Support Network, as well.
