ADEL, GA (WALB) - Last Tuesday, a Cook County deputy stopped a new Toyota that was going 90 miles an hour through Cook County, heading south.
While the deputy was writing a ticket on Khalil Schleicher of Orlando, Florida, he noticed an aroma of marijuana, so he called for backup and searched the car.
Schleicher told the deputies there was pot in a suitcase in the trunk of the car, and deputies saw 18 plastic bags of the drug, which turned out to weight just under 22 pounds.
They also found a container that had $71,880 in cash.
Schleicher was immediately handcuffed and taken to jail, and the car, a rental, was impounded.
He faces a long list of crimes including traffic violations, and the drug charges.
"This goes to show that I-75 is a major artery for for criminal activity which passes through our small community," said Sheriff Douglas G. Hanks.
