ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Tornadoes are using the buddy system at the next level, and it makes sense, because none of them are staying within the state of Georgia.

Monroe high school's gym was packed Thursday afternoon to celebrate its student athletes.

Offensive lineman Eric Seay and wide receiver Ulysses Williams announced they are heading to Middle Tennessee State University.

Both players plan to walk on to the Division I Conference USA school.

Dan Williams announced he is heading to Livingstone College.

He will be joined by offensive guard Jarnaski Lassiter who was enticed by the opportunity to go out of state.

"I regret leaving my family," said Lassiter. "But it's been good walking these halls and playing for Monroe for 4 years."

Monroe head coach Charles Truitt is glad his former players will have each other at the distant schools.

"They can feed off each other, learn from each other," said Truitt. "It's good to have both of those guys to be able to have somebody they know at the university they are attending."

Truitt hopes the celebration will inspire the younger tornadoes to want to earn a scholarship as well.
