ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A Dougherty County pecan grower loses a half million dollars worth of farming equipment in a barn fire.
Mark Goodyear's pole barn on Tarva Road went up in flames just before 1:00 this morning.
It took firefighters an hour to put out the huge blaze. They had to shuttle 15,000 gallons of water to the rural area.
The fire burned three tractors, two harvesters, one shaker, and other growing equipment.
Investigators say an electric short started the costly blaze. "We discovered some arcing on a single outlet that was located within the structure. And that is our preliminary finding. We will continue to work the incident," said Albany Fire Investigator Sam Harris.
Goodyear said his equipment was insured, and his pecan harvest was completed.
