ALBANY, GA (WALB) - According to Albany Police, no charges will be filed after a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle while walking near the intersection of Newton Road and South Slappey Boulevard.

According to the coroner, Jacedrick Leverette, 25, died after he was struck just before 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

Police said that Leverette was walking south in the northbound lane in the 2200 block of Newton Road when he was struck by a 2005 Honda CRV driven by Stephanie McDowell, 30.

"I know he was walking toward the traffic but he had on dark clothes so if you're going to walk you need to have on some kind of reflector or some kind of light clothes so someone can see you and don't walk so close to the road," said Dougherty County Coroner Michael Fowler.

Albany Police and EMS responded to the scene after the call came in around 5:50 p.m.
