ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Albany Police are investigating after shots were fired into an unoccupied Dougherty County Sheriff's investigator's car Tuesday night.
It happened at the Pic &Save on East Oglethorpe.
The deputy was not in the unmarked car, but was inside the store at the time.
The deputy said he heard 7 to 10 gunshots and went outside and found his patrol car had been hit by several bullets.
Shell casings from two different guns were found.
Sheriff Kevin Sproul said he is disappointed, but not surprised.
"We've been on high alert for the last couple of years. And we're using the most caution that we can use. Not to become complacent," said Sproul.
Sproul said he wonders if the shooters thought the deputy was inside the car.
Albany Police are investigating, while law enforcement remains on watch.
