ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Authorities are investigating after a body was found in the backseat of a truck at the Fast Lane on Sylvester Road.

According to officials, Dougherty County Police and EMS responded to a call of a suspicious auto around 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

So far, authorities have said that a deceased female was found in the backseat of a truck at the convenience store.

Dougherty County Coroner Michael Fowler was among those who responded to the incident.

GBI agents also arrived and began processing the scene.

Fowler said it's possible the woman died from cardiac arrest, but there are unanswered questions, so they are handling this as a homicide investigation right now.

The body is being sent for an autopsy to determine the official cause of death.

Fowler also said that investigators are searching for the driver of the truck.

"A lot of unanswered questions surrounding the circumstance as to why she was in the back and unresponsive. It was a truck that was coming down the highway. So, we have a lot questions. We don't have the individual they are looking for," explained Fowler.

Fowler said the possibility of drugs being involved will be looked into during the autopsy.

An Epic Imports test drive tag was on the vehicle. An employee of the used car dealership said he had never seen the truck before, but confirmed the temporary test drive tag was the kind the company uses.

Officials said that since not all family members have been notified yet, they are not releasing the identity of the woman or her age.
