GBI investigates 'apparent' Fitzgerald armed robbery turned homicide

FITZGERALD, GA (WALB) - The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is on the scene in Fitzgerald where a body was found. The lead investigator said it appears to be an armed robbery that turned into a homicide.

Fitzgerald Police Chief Bill Smallwood confirmed a man was found dead at the Global Meat Market in Fitzgerald on Tuesday.

It happened around 4:30 in the afternoon in the 700 block of Merricmac Drive.

Smallwood said the man died from an apparent gunshot wound.
