ALBANY, GA (WALB) - An Albany high school will soon find out if it won a national award.
Monroe High School was nominated for best high school in the country in Steve Harvey's annual Neighborhood Awards.
The school made it into the top four, but the big reveal will be this weekend.
The school started off with a nomination. Once voting took off on social media, the school found out they were in the top four.
The number one school will be announced at an event in Las Vegas.
Principal Vinson Davis will be attending the event.
He said that the school's support has been incredible.
"It has to do a lot with the support that schools get from throughout the community and Monroe certainly is one of those schools that I would put up against anyone in terms of support that those alumni and community gives to our school," said Davis.
Vinson leaves for Vegas Friday where he will meet with a number of Monroe alumni, like Louis Cobb Jr. who graduated in 1987.
Cobb said that some people were surprised to see the school so high up, but he never was.
"While the community is small, relatively, but the Monroe family is huge. So this contribution and impact goes back generations so we are proud of that," said Cobb.
Like Cobb, many alumni now teach in the Dougherty County School System.
The best high school will be announced at an award show Saturday night.
