CALHOUN CO., GA (WALB) - An interim director has been named to take the place of Susan English-Slappey for 60 days. English Slappey was fired because she can no longer perform her duties.
Susan English-Slappey is charged with providing contraband to prison inmates at Calhoun State Prison, as well as "sexual assault by a person of supervisory authority."
Authorities have still not detailed exactly what she is accused of doing.
In the meantime, a task force with the Georgia Department of Corrections is investigating, and the Calhoun County Sheriff expects to see more charges.
Sheriff Josh Hilton says people are still shocked.
"It's a pretty quiet place, but you don't ever know. You know things surprise you, and you know I think it surprised a lot of people around here," he said.
He says people providing contraband to inmates is something they deal with often, and deputies catch of lot of people attempting to bring it into Calhoun State Prison.
"I think in the last few years we had upwards of 60 to 70 cases I would think," Hilton said.
