TIFTON, GA (WALB) - Police say they are investigating after shots were fired in a neighborhood near Charles Spencer Elementary School.

Officials said they believe the shots came from Brookfield Mews Apartments.

Police said car ride pickup was happening at the time, and school administrators quickly brought the students back inside when the shots rang out.

School leaders later began releasing students again to parents and guardians on the other side of the school.

Along with the Tifton Police, the Tift County Sheriff's Office, GSP and Department of Public Safety helped with the student pick up and made sure everyone was safe.

There were no reports of any injuries.

Later the Tifton Police Department released a statement saying that nobody was hit and that students were not targets.

The Tifton Police Department is investigating the incident.
