A car fire shot flames into the air and gave commuters quite a show.
Just before seven, rush hour drivers were shocked to see the SUV completely engulfed in flames in the median of the Liberty Bypass between Nottingham and Slappey.
Firefigthers say the driver, Tara Bodden from Leesburg, escaped the car unharmed.
But the BMW SUV was totally destroyed.
The cause of the fire is undetermined.
Auto experts tell us people need to stay alert for odors, that could mean gas or oil leaks.
"Many times the engine bays on these new cars are tightly confined," said Premier Autoworks Owner James Stalvey. "Hot oil can leak down on your hot exhaust and next thing you know you can start a fire."
Stalvey said people should make sure that only trained experts work on your car.
Traffic slowed down the bypass while the burning car was cleared.
