Female motorcyclist dies after collision in Lowndes Co.

LOWNDES CO., GA (WALB) - Post 31 Georgia State Patrol troopers responded to a wreck at about 7 p.m. Friday on GA Highway 376 at Whitewater Road in Lowndes County.

A silver jeep, driven by 26-year-old Cierra Megan Hernandez of Statenville, was traveling east on GA 376 and prepared to take a left turn onto Whitewater Rd. A red motorcycle, driven by 54-year-old Cassandra Davis of Albany was traveling west on GA 376 at the time.

Hernandez failed to yield to Davis when taking the turn onto Whitewater Rd, and drove into Davis' path of travel. Davis then struck the front passenger side of the jeep.

Davis was transported to South Georgia Medical Center, where she later died of her injuries.

Hernandez and the passenger in her vehicle, 26-year-old Robert Joseph Bellew of Valdosta, were not injured after the impact.

GSP's Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is now investigating the collision.

Charges will be pending with the outcome of their investigation. Troopers do suspect drugs to be a contributing factor in the collision, but will be pending a toxicology report.

Davis was wearing a DOT certified helmet.
