CORDELE, GA (WALB) - GBI agents are investigating a deadly robbery at the Eastside Grocery on 8th Avenue and 2nd Street.
The call came in at about 1:06 a.m. Sunday to the Cordele Police Department.
Two people outside the store were shot, one was the suspect and the other was the store owner. The suspect is being treated at Crisp Regional Hospital.
The store owner, Sarfaraz Khan died in the incident. The suspect was identified as 21-year old Marquerious Carter.
GBI agents and detectives are currently interviewing people.
It's still unclear how each person was shot. There was a scuffle with multiple shots fired. Carter's injuries are unknown at this time.
Carter faces potential charges of armed robbery and felony murder. Police have not said if he's involved in other armed robberies in Cordele.
Dating back to 2014, this morning's robbery makes at least 6 times the store has been hit. The store was robbed back in October of last year.
Robbers also targeted the place on March 5th and January 8th of 2015. In 2014, the store was robbed in early December and back in May.
Shots were fired in previous robberies, but this robbery marks the first time anyone was injured.
