ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A Dougherty County business owner is using social media to try to recover his stolen tractor, worth nearly $11,000. He let social media decide on a rather unique reward he's offering to get it back- An AR-15 assault style rifle.

Crooks stole Roger Smith's L3200 Kubota tractor from his equipment sales yard on Sylvester Road, Friday night about 6:30. They cut the fence, drove the tractor onto a trailer, and drove it off.

The business owners say it's like a slap in the face.  "This is the way we make our living.  This is the way I get paid. My family gets food on the table," said Josh Smith, the owner's son.

The Smiths put out blasts on social media about the tractor, and someone quickly reported it was seen going east through Tifton on Highway 82.

"We're just trying to get it out there. Get it shared as many times as it can, because we just need help trying to get our tractor back,"  Smith said. "You'll get a fully loaded AR-15 rifle."

Because of a lot of that traffic on social media, the Smiths let those discussions help them decide on a reward if you help them get the thief.

If you can help get the tractor back or arrest and convict the thief, the Smiths will buy you an A.R. 15 when you pass the check to own one.

"It's your legal right to have it. Come in, give us your paperwork. We'll pay for it.  You are out the door. We just want our tractor back."

Smith said they know lots of farm equipment is being stolen now, and they hope the reward offer of an  assault rifle will help them get their property back.
