BAINBRIDGE, GA (WALB) - Bainbridge State College holds a ribbon cutting ceremony for their newest building; the Hawthorn Health Science Center.

But there's a whole lot more to this facility than just a simple building. The new center resembles a real hospital.

"We can actually simulate what it's actually going to be like so they can have a decrease level of anxiety and being able to perform better and have confidence in their abilities," said Jeffrey Ross, Chair and Associate Professor of Nursing.

Nursing, EMT, and Health Science students have the opportunity to practice with virtual mannequins in real life like situations. Instructors say before the new facility was established, students were using standard mannequins. With the new technology, they can give IV's, practice drawing blood, and even practice delivering babies.

"One of the very first things patients always say is have you done this before?" said Ross. "So now we can say 'absolutely.' "

The Simulator Mannequin has real life features such as blinking, breathing, and responding.

The virtual hospital includes a pediatric room, medical surgical room, and an orthopedic room.

Students have already started practicing in the new virtual facility.
