ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Despite the cold weather many folks came out to honor Mary Young-Cummings. She was one of Albany's first African Americans to be elected to the City Commission.
Cummings was honored on Saturday by a park being dedicated to her, right next door to where she used to live.
"We're going to plant tulips, we're going to plant daffodils, but this will help people to when they see those remember the woman we're honoring," said Nancy Dawson. "Remember the significance what she's done. And get people involved in understanding that."
There will also be a sign marking the location as Mary Young-Cummings Park.
