CORDELE, GA (WALB) - Armed robbers take thousands of dollars from a Cordele Convenience Store and attack a clerk.

The store owner is hoping the public can identify the crooks, he says this is the first he's experienced this type of crime leaving him and his staff on edge.

Armed robbers wearing masks enter the EZ Stop convenience store on 16th avenue just before closing Thursday night. Store owner Bob Prajapati and his staff are now on high alert.

"We still feel scary right now, ok, but it was a bad moment," said Bob Prajapati, Store Owner.

The robbers, one wearing a purple sweatshirt and the other wearing all black are seen with their guns drawn demanding money from the two store clerks. Prajapati says the video also shows a customer outside pumping gas. Longtime customer Charles Kerr, says he was shocked to hear the news.

"I was very upset about it because I read our newspaper, but I had no idea they had robbed my store," said Charles Kerr, Customer.

The robbers took money and one of the clerk's cellphones. The robber in purple also hits one of the clerks on the head with his gun before leaving the store.

"God Bless me," said Prajapati. "I am here alive and my employees are still alive. We should feel happy. Money is nothing for us."

Prajapati says the robbery is affecting his business.

"Still people are scared to come by because it happened and they see it in the paper and everything," said Prajapati.

Kerr says he wants to see more police patrolling in the area.

"We're not getting the patrol that we need," said Kerr. "We're not getting the police protection that we need to be getting."

The owner is hoping someone will recognize the robbers.

"I thank the department and everybody alert for that," said Prajapati. "I don't want it to happen again to anybody like that."

The owner says they are now closing earlier due to the robbery. Cordele Police say no arrests have been made. If you think you recognize the robbers you are asked to call Cordele Police.
