ALBANY, GA (WALB) - An Albany man, who was acquitted of murdering an Albany child in the 1980s was convicted for kidnapping and stabbing his girlfriend, and could face decades in prison.

53-year-old Arthur Peters was found guilty of kidnapping, aggravated assault, and aggravated battery Wednesday.

Prosecutors said girlfriend Patricia Wright lost use of her left hand because of her stab wounds.

Peters gained notoriety in October 1988 when he was charged with murdering Tonya Holsey. The child was strangled.

But Peters murder conviction was overturned, and then years later he was found not guilty.

Peters refused to attend most of his trial this week, and he was convicted without being in the courtroom.

He was expected to be sentenced Monday.
