MOULTRIE, GA (WALB) - The Moultrie Fire Department continues a lifesaving program to put smoke detectors in homes.
Fire department officials say they have installed more than 7,000 smoke detectors since 2002.
They say a fire last night in a house on 4th avenue could have been a lot worse if not for the smoke alarms the fire department installed in the home for free.
"She had three of them at her house they was all working and operational. And actually it alerted her to the fire," Lavon Cooper said.
The Red Cross is now working with the Moultrie Fire Department to install smoke detectors.
Call either organization if you'd like a smoke alarm in your home.
