CAMILLA, GA (WALB) - A Camilla family is displaced after their mobile home catches fire just before midnight Tuesday.

The Camilla Fire Department and Autry State Prison fire crews responded to the home on the 3800 block of Hampton Lane.

Fire Chief Jaime Sullivan says they believe the fire started in the resident's car and spread to the home.

Nera Kelly, the resident, was home alone at the time. "I heard a noise at the door and thought it was my boyfriend," said Kelly.

Instead, it was flames shooting from the hallway. "I tried to get out the back door but I couldn't open it, " continued Kelly. "I tried to get out my window that wouldn't open."

She was forced to crawl out the window in the bedroom.  "I got out the window, I could see my car in the front side of the house was all on fire," said Kelly.

She then called 911. Fire officials say 40% of the home was engulfed in flames, but with the smoke and water damage the home is a total loss.

As for Kelly, that's the least of her worries. "I just thank God I did get out, because I thought I wouldn't be able to get out, that smoke was black and dark and everything," said Kelly. "I could hardly see."

Firefighters are expected to re-visit the scene this morning to continue their investigation.
