DOUGHERTY CO., GA (WALB) - Many local law enforcement agencies will help make sure your home is safe while you're out of town on your summer vacation

The Dougherty County Police Department is one of many that will go by your home and check on it for free while you're gone.

All you have to do is call their office, tell them you're interested in being added to the watch list program, and give them a little information.

"All they have to do is call up to our desk, they will take down some relevant information because if something does happen we need a way to get in contact with you and verify you are the resident there and we will actual look out for your property while your gone," says Capt. Tom Jackson, with the Dougherty County Police.

The department also puts homes that have been burglarized on the watch list for a while after the burglary to try to make sure the criminals don't return.
