Teen becomes internet star with viral Vine videos
OCILLA, GA (WALB) - A South Georgia teen who loves to make funny videos has become an international internet sensation, garnering more than 2 million followers on Vine.
His name is Brandon Bowen, and he is taking the internet by storm. He says he just wants to make people laugh.
"Well, that's what people call me, but I'm just a kid with a phone," said Bowen.
He has nearly 300 vine videos to prove it. Bowen said he posted his first video in 2013 after finding a Facebook page with his sister called "Best of Vines."
"She was on that page and I thought, why don't I download Vine and just give it a shot and have fun with it?" Bowen explained.
So, he did. Bowen unleashes his comedic skills in all of his videos.
"They're going to see song parodies and me possibly in my underwear," he said.
His mom supports him and his videos.
"He's always been really silly and funny and enjoyed life," said his mother Shannon Bowen.
Meanwhile, the teen trending on Vine has 2.4 million followers and counting.
"My hater blocker video blew up. It reached 200,000 likes and people like Dr. Oz, Good Morning America, Yahoo News, all of them were emailing me wanting me to come on their show," said Bowen.
One of his biggest accomplishments was winning a Shorty Award for Best Vine Comedian in New York. The Ocilla teen used Twitter to reach out to fans for votes.
"That's just mind-boggling to me, I can't really understand it."
The 17-year-old has aspirations of becoming an actor and plans to reach his goals with his mother by his side, every step of the way.
"We're just very excited about what he has accomplished and we just look forward to the future," said his mother.
"Just a little enjoyment in their life because that's all we need is some enjoyment," explained Bowen. "It's good for the soul."
Brandon and his mother plan to go to Los Angeles in May to pursue his acting career.
