CAMILLA, GA (WALB) - Work continues to repair railroad tracks in Mitchell County, where a train derailed last week.
Five railcars are still on their sides on the Georgia Florida Railnet tracks about three miles north of Camilla next to US 19.
Norfolk Southern engines were pulling the cars when they derailed late Friday afternoon. Tractors continue cleaning up corn that spilled.
Repairs are underway on the tracks, so the cars can be righted again.
"It was not an emergency response from the fire department, due to the fact it was not hazardous material involved. It was just grain, just corn. Corn that appeared to be going down to the facility here in Camilla to be off loaded," said Camilla Fire Chief Jamie Sullivan
Georgia Florida Railnet officials did not return our calls.
