Calhoun County celebrates state title with parade

CALHOUN CO., GA (WALB) - On Saturday morning, the Calhoun County Cougars celebrated their GHSA Class A Public State Championship with their community.

Folks across the county lined the streets for the Calhoun Co. Cougars championship parade.

Players, coaches, and alums all walked through Edison on the beautiful spring morning.

Then, took the party into the gym for a championship pep rally.

Coach Marcus Shaw said he couldn't be more happy with the amount of support his team has gotten from the community all year.

"[This is a] basketball community," said Head Coach Marcus Shaw. "A state championship means a whole lot to this community. And, we're just glad we were able to accomplish that goal of winning a state championship."

"It's not a surprise that we're getting all this support because they've been doing this all year, all season," said Senior DaJohn Williams. "We've had this for four years and it's amazing playing in front of these fans."

It was Williams who scored the game winning bucket with 6.7 seconds left to beat the Greenville Patriots 84-82.

It is the third state title in school history.
