ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Dougherty County High School students learned about college opportunities right here at home Monday night.
Albany Go to College Night was held at Albany Tech.
Representatives from Albany State, Albany Tech and Darton State answered financial aid scholarship and admissions questions from students and parents.
They also watched the film "First Generation" about obstacles students can face entering college.
" One of the ways to reduce dropout rates in high school is to have students learn more about the benefits of college and how the college process is rewarding and a fun experience for them. So tonight is a way to introduce students and their parents to the college experience," said R.D. Harter, Dougherty County School.
This is the first time the school system has partnered with the colleges for the event.
Mayor Dorothy Hubbard also read a proclamation declaring today "Go to College day" in Albany.
