Death investigation underway into body found in Albany fire

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A death investigation is underway, after the body of an unknown man was  discovered in an Albany fire early Saturday morning.

Firefighters were called to a vacant apartment in the 1700 block of Clark Avenue at 4:20 AM .They found the apartment in flames, and the body of a man in the home.  Investigators say they have not confirmed the man's identity or age.

Investigators say the fire originated in the front bedroom of the home, which was heavily damaged by flames. The body of the man was found in another part of the apartment.

Firefighters say this is a  unit of the Albany Homes Apartments.  It had been red tagged, and was supposed to be vacant.  The apartment had no power.

Albany Fire Department and Albany Police investigators are still on the scene, as their death investigation continues.
