VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - Valdosta State University will open it's annual "Valdosta National" art exhibition Tuesday night.
More than 50 works of art from around the country will be on display.
The exhibition officially kicks off at 7 p.m. with an awards presentation. Judges will vote on the art work and a total of $1,500 dollars will be awarded to the artists, depending on what place their work receives.
35 artists from 18 states submitted more than 150 works for display at the exhibit. 59 of those works were ultimately chosen to be displayed.
The artwork includes everything from paintings to videos. The Gallery Director says this event is a lot of fun.
"It's just exciting to see the contemporary art that's coming from all over the country," said Julie Rowland, Gallery Director and art professor at VSU.
"How artists are working now and the interests of the audience coming and looking and interpreting things in different ways. And just having that experience of being with the art," Bowland continued.
Bowland said opening night is what she looks forward to the most.
"What do you most looked forward to?"
"I think today, the actual opening," Bowland said. "Because it really builds up; it's a very complex procedure."
The exhibition will run through February 8 and is open Monday through Thursday from 8-30 to 5-30, and Friday from 9 to 3.
