MOULTRIE, GA (WALB) - A Moultrie woman is out in bond after being arrested for online prostitution.
Police say Marlana Nicole Wilcher, 27, was taken into custody Wednesday after running an ad soliciting sex online. Officers say they arrested the woman after multiple text messages and emails led to a meeting.
They say the incident is the latest in a recent increase in Internet prostitution throughout Southwest Georgia.
"We noticed that a lot of individuals we have seen posted ads online have been using Valdosta, Moultrie, Albany. Of course we want to take care of Moultrie. It seems that it has become a regional crime," said Moultrie Police Department Sgt. Daniel Lindsay.
Wilcher was charged with one count of prostitution.
Sgt. Lindsay says recent increases in online prostitution may be attributed to improved technology and smart phone advances. He says officers continue to monitor multiple sites for other offenders.
