Riding mower raffle to help transplant candidate
ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Two lawn equipment businesses are working together to raise money for a Worth County man battling a deadly lung disease. Lawn Performance and Grasshopper Mowers are raffling off a $7,000 lawn mower to raise money to support Eddie Etheridge's medical bills.
Eddie Etheridge has suffered from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis for three years, and recently moved up on a lung transplant list. He currently uses an oxygen tank to help him breathe.
Up for grabs in the raffle is a Grasshopper Mowers riding lawn mower. It is a Model #124 with a 48" cutting deck and a 24 horsepower commercial engine, valued at $7,000.
Raffle tickets cost $20 and can be purchased at Lawn Performance, All American Fun Park and Fastenal Co. in Albany. Ticket holders do not need to be present to win.
The drawing for the mower will be held August 3rd at Lawn Performance, located at 2814 Wilmar Ln. in Albany.
Lawn Performance is also hosting a Barbecue that is open to the public at their location on Wilmar Lane Saturday July 20th. Barbecue plates will cost $6 and serving will begin at 11 a.m. Proceeds from the Barbecue and raffle tickets will benefit the Southeast Lung Transplant Fund.
"You know we are praying everyday that donor will come through, but we've got to be able to maintain his insurance, and we've got to be able to maintain the fact that he can be able to buy the medications to keep him alive after such transplant and that's what we are doing every way that we can," said Eddie Etheridge's nephew Rocky Etheridge.
Family members say they are hopeful that these fundraisers will lead to Etheridge's speedy recovery.
