ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Albany Technical College is helping south Georgians achieve their dreams by joining a national effort to improve student achievement.
Albany Tech kicked off the Achieving the Dream Initiative and is one of 26 nationwide colleges taking part in the program to find ways to close achievement gaps and increase student retention and graduation rates.
Today, the school invited community and business leaders to campus to learn about and help with the initiative.
"See if we can help them achieve their graduation goals in the shortest point of time," said Dr. Anthony Parker, President of Albany Tech.
Everyone who attended was asked to fill out a survey and get involved helping students reach their goals.
"With communities help and with other's help, to significantly change how many students actually cross the finish line," said Dr. Jan Lydden, Achieving the Dream Data Coach.
Organizers plan to use the information to make changes in problem areas of the curriculum and highlight the strengths of the institution.
