AMERICUS, GA (WALB) - A unique south Georgia manufacturer that got international attention is shut down for good. Georgia Chopsticks filed for bankruptcy.

At it's peak, the Americus plant made millions of chopsticks a day that it sold to China. It closed in April, though owners said at the time the shutdown was just temporary.

Potential local investors are looking at the possibility of reopening the plant.

Some better job news for Americus. Tennessee-based Recreation Unlimited is buying the Sak Marine plant in Americus and may ramp up boat production there.

A company spokesman says once the deal is final, the plant should employ 25 to 35 people, though local leaders say they've been told to expect a substantially larger number of jobs.
