An Albany resident is a finalist in The Flavor of Georgia food product contest.

Debra McFadden Bryant owns Geechee Girl Foods, a startup institutional food company in Albany and entered her Seafood Gumbo in the contest.

The annual competition, sponsored by the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences has selected the Bryant's gumbo as one of four finalists in its Meat and Seafood Product Category.

Bryant says the flavor of her dish evolved from group cooking with her family.

"As we travel around the world, we have always exchanged recipes or do cooking together over the phone, with our own little secrets of spices that we would come up with and new things that we had learned that we could incorporate in core dishes," said Debra McFadden Bryant, GeeChee Girl Foods Owner

Final judging will be held March 12th and 13th at the Georgia Freight Depot in downtown Atlanta.
