Cairo - Formosan termites are not commonly found in Georgia, but have recently been found in at least 15 Georgia locations, including homes and trees in Cairo.
The termites got here through RailRoad ties brought in from Louisiana. Charles Dixon says, "We don't want to alarm anybody, but we want people to be aware that these particular termites have the ability to do more damage just because the numbers of the colony."
Property damage and control costs of Formosans run more than $1 billion a year nationwide.
