An overnight wreck involving a semi sends one woman to the hospital. It happened in Mitchell County just after 1:00AM.

The diesel truck driven by 55-year-old Yiep Thai Nguyen OF Westminster, California was carrying soil for mushrooms and was headed to Quincy, Florida. Mitchell County Deputies say the Semi was headed south on River Road.

The car was headed west on State Route 37. The 18-wheeler ran the stop sign and was hit at the gas tank by the car.

The truck failed to stop at the intersection with State Route 37 and was struck by 54-year-old Barbara Ann Thomas of Leary, who had the right of way.

The tractor trailer ran off the road for about a quart of a mile, barely missing two cotton gins.

Thomas sustained serious injuries to her leg and was transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.

The truck's driver and his passenger Andrew Nguyen of California were not injured.

Nguyen was charged with failure to yield.

The truck driver received two tickets for running a stop sign and driving to fast for conditions. Mitchell County Deputies and Georgia State Troopers closed off parts of River road for three hours to clear the wreckage.

Deputies say if the Semi had hit the car, this story would be a lot different.
