Saturday afternoon's broadcast of the Kentucky Derby on WALB was interrupted unintentionally by a commercial break.

Before control room operators could correct the error, the race ended.

WALB Station Manager Jim Wilcox issued a statement apologizing to viewers for the error.

Wilcox said the station recently install new switching equipment which led the mistake.

He went on to say the station staff is working hard to correct problems associated with the new equipment and new procedures.

Below is him entire statement.

"Saturday afternoon's broadcast of the Kentucky Derby on WALB was interrupted unintentionally by a commercial break.

Before our operators could correct the error, our viewers missed the end of the derby.

We apologize for this broadcast error.

We have recently installed new HD switching equipment and procedures which led to the error.

This kind of error is not what you have grown to expect from WALB.

Nor is this what we expect from ourselves.

Our staff is working hard to correct all the problems associated with the new equipment and the procedures.

Again I apologize for all of our recent technical errors."
