Kwame Brown arrested for DUI
August 20, 2003
(Brunswick-AP) -- Washington Wizards forward Kwame Brown faces a charge of driving under the influence after being stopped while weaving along a highway near his hometown of Brunswick.
According to a police report, Brown's blood-alcohol content was almost twice the legal limit, and he smelled of alcohol and appeared unsteady on his feet during roadside sobriety tests about 3:00AM Friday.
The 21-year-old Brown was charged with misdemeanor driving under the influence, having an open container of alcohol and failure to maintain a lane of travel.
He was released from the Glynn County Detention Center on a $925 bond pending a court date, which has not been set.
The former Glynn Academy star was the Number One pick in the 2001 NBA draft out of high school. Ernie Grunfeld, the Wizards' president of basketball operations, said the team would have no comment until the matter is resolved in court.
