ALBANY, GA (WALB) – An Albany landscaping company is going green in a new way.   Merry Acres landscaping recently bought eight propane-powered lawn mowers and a pickup truck.   Each mower holds about eight gallons of propane which fuels the mower for a full day of mowing.

While the equipment was about 20% more expensive, the company expects to save money in the long run.  Propane costs between fifty and seventy cents less per gallon than gasoline.  Plus, it burns cleaner, so engines hold up better over time.

Vice President Jon Dozier expects to see more companies make the switch.  He said, "We're one of the first people in this area to switch to propane.  I think once all these issues that we've had with the fuel overseas, in the gulf, that is one issue with the propane, 95% of propane comes from the United States as opposed to going overseas."

There is a one thousand gallon propane tank located at the business, so workers can fill up the mowers and the truck each morning before heading out.
