Can you take a photo of your ballot in Georgia? Rules for polling places
What to know about phones, political clothing, water and lines at closing time.
ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Georgia voters will pick leaders Tuesday, Nov. 3, for offices from the governor’s mansion to the local courthouse.
Here are answers to some of your questions before heading to the polls.
Can I take a picture of my ballot?
No. Phones cannot be used inside the polling area.
Can I still vote if I’m in line when the polls close at 7 p.m.?
Yes. You can still vote.
Can I wear a political T-shirt to the polls?
No. Within 150 feet of the polling place, clothing that promotes a candidate, political party or campaign slogan is banned. Cover it up or turn it inside out.
Can I bring water, or get it from someone, while I wait in line?
Bring your own. No one can give it to you in line.
Can I take a picture of my ballot?
No. Voters cannot use their phones inside the polling area. That includes selfies and livestreams. Georgia ballots are secret by law to prevent voter coercion and vote-buying. Voters can take photos outside, including a photo with an “I voted” sticker.
Can I still vote if I’m in line when the polls close at 7 p.m.?
Voters who are in line by the deadline can still vote. The polls stay open until the last person in line casts a ballot. Voters should stay in line until they cast a ballot.
Can I wear a political T-shirt to the polls?
No. According to the Georgia secretary of state’s website, it is against the law to campaign within 150 feet of a polling place. Clothing that promotes a candidate, political party or campaign slogan is banned in that area. Voters wearing such clothing should expect to cover it up or turn it inside out before going in.
Can I bring water, or get it from someone, while I wait in line?
No one can give water to voters while they are in line, but voters can bring their own. Poll workers are allowed to set up self-service water stations for voters who are waiting.
