MEMPHIS, Tenn. (KCTV/Gray News) - A former University of Kansas basketball player has been charged with attempted first-degree murder.

According to court records, 29-year-old Lagerald Vick allegedly shot a man during an argument at a Fourth of July party.

Vick allegedly approached the victim at the party and the two started arguing.

The victim told investigators that Vick had a handgun tucked under his armpit. The victim said he tried to de-escalate and walk away, but Vick followed him, continued yelling and shot him once in the lower back, according to court records.

The victim told authorities that he fell and saw Vick still pointing the gun at him before the victim ran away.

A few days later, the victim identified Vick in a lineup, according to court documents.

Vick is being held on a $1.5 million bond.

He played for the University of Kansas from 2015 to 2019. He played for several professional basketball teams, including the Southland Sharks in New Zealand before being released in April 2024.
