BAINBRIDGE, Ga. (WCTV) - A local hospital in Bainbridge has officially been designated as a Remote Treatment Stroke Center.

Memorial Hospital and Manor announced the news this past week, and officials said it’s a great asset for patients and staff.

Remote stroke centers allow hospitals to assist stroke patients quickly with the help of real-time consultations from neurologists via telehealth.

The specialists assist in confirming if a patient is having a stroke, a course of treatment and if the patient will need rehabilitation or a facility transfer.

“It’s very important for the residents here, and I think that it should definitely make them feel better knowing that we have been extensively trained,” she said.

Amy Anderson, a nursing manager at the hospital, said a stroke can be fatal, and time is one of the most important factors when treating patients.

“There are such guidelines that we have to follow like there’s a lot of time limits that are required for us to meet and we’ve been able to do that because time is very important,” she said.

Anderson said it has really streamlined their treatment process and allows the staff to work quickly and efficiently to make sure their patients get the care they need.
