At least 4 Georgia Hooters locations abruptly close months after company files for bankruptcy
ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A few months after filing for bankruptcy, Hooters is closing dozens of restaurants across the country — including some in Georgia.
At least four locations across the state have permanently shut down in this recent round of closures. Those include:
- 209 Peachtree Road NE in Atlanta
- 3550 Gwinnett Pl. Dr. NW in Duluth
- 6855 Douglas Blvd. in Douglasville
- 1854 Club House Drive in Valdosta
The Downtown Atlanta Hooters, a popular spot for tourists in the heart of the hotel district, had been in business since 2002.
The company released a statement saying the stores targeted for closure were owned by the corporation and that the decision came after “careful consideration.” The restaurant’s future plan is for all locations to be franchised.
“We are committed to supporting our impacted team members throughout this process and are incredibly grateful to our valued customers for their loyalty and dedication to the Hooters brand,” the statement said.
In 2024, Hooters shut down its first wave of “underperforming” restaurants, citing rising food and labor costs. Then in March, the company filed for bankruptcy, saying it would sell its 100 company-owned restaurants to two franchisee groups.
Hooters’ parent company, HOA Restaurant Group, is based in Atlanta.
It’s been a hard few weeks for sports-bar fans in Atlanta. Latrell Phillips ate at the downtown Hooters every week.
“This is, like, the flagship location,” Phillips said. “It’s a staple in the city.”
His other go-to spot, the Midtown Taco Mac, closed just two days ago.
“If you’re in Midtown, you go to Taco Mac,” Phillips said. “If you’re downtown, you go to Hooters.”
