Hurricane Preparedness Week comes to a close in Georgia

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Hurricane season is 23 days away, and preparations are already underway.

With Hurricane Preparedness Week coming to a close May 10, First Alert Meteorologist Courteney Jacobazzi details how to gear up for the upcoming severe weather season.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has a disaster preparedness checklist you can follow:

  • Water
  • Food (at least a several-day supply of non-perishable food items)
  • Battery-powered crank radio
  • Flashlight
  • First aid kit
  • Extra batteries
  • Moist towelettes, garbage bags
  • Wrench or pliers
  • Local maps
  • Cell phone with chargers and a backup battery
