Senators Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock urge the Trump Administration to disburse $21B in relief
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Georgia leaders are urging the Trump Administration to swiftly distribute $21 billion for Georgia farmers recovering from Hurricane Helene.
Senators Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock fought for funding for a disaster relief package that wouldn’t only help farmers recovering from the horrifying impacts of Helene, but other natural disasters as well.
Both Senators are asking the current administration to prioritize this as the funding was secured by Congress late last year.
“Family farms are on the brink of closing. That’s why I worked to pass disaster assistance for Gorgia farmers through Congress in less than 90 days,” Senator Ossoff said. “Remember for Hurricane Michael it took 8 months for Congress to act. That’s why it’s essential that the Trump Administration move swiftly to get this help to the Georgia farmers that need it.”
The Georgia Pecan Growers Association reported that 48,000 acres of pecan orchards were damaged with a loss of nearly 400,000 trees, and the Georgia Poultry Federation reported that 495 poultry houses took significant damage, including 295 that were completely lost.
