Arrest made in connection to Albany Memorial Day shooting, victim identified
One person has been arrested, another is wanted as person of interest
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - The victim of the deadly Memorial Day shooting in Albany has been identified and one suspect has been arrested in connection.
According to the Albany Police Department (APD), on Monday, May 27, at 12:19 p.m. officers responded to the 400 Block of Lipsey Drive in reference to a shooting.
Charles Shavers Jr., 40, was found dead with a single gunshot wound to the chest. During the investigation the Criminal Investigative Bureau was able to identify Damontae D. Johnson, 17, as one of the suspects involved, per the release.
Johnson was arrested at his residence and is being charged with murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
He is currently being held at the Dougherty County Jail.
According to APD, Dekardre Adonis Barkley, 27, is also a person of interest in the homicide investigation. Barkley also has two outstanding warrants for his arrest from a previous case.
