Power failure, rain cause sewer spill in Albany

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - On Sunday, Albany experienced a sanitary sewer spill, according to the city.
Around 5:25 p.m., city officials said there was a sewer spill at 701 Elm Street into the stormwater pond due to power failure and heavy rainfall.
At the intersection of Gordon and Elm Street, an estimated 27,000 gallons of sewage was discharged into the Percosin Canal system.
The city said actions were immediately taken to correct the issue.
The overflow ended at 5:45 p.m., shortly after power was restored.
The drinking water systems were not affected, according to city officials.
