NEWTON, Ga. (WALB) - Football is happening in Baker County. The Bears getting to work this off-season ahead of the program’s inaugural season.

For the first time, the Bears have the opportunity to write their own history.

The excitement for the 2021 season is at an all-time high. Derex Woumnm, the Bears head football coach, is nothing short of impressed with the buy-in from the school, players, and community.

The next few months will be all about fundamentals and learning the game because for most of these kids this is their initial exposure to the game. As the Bears prepare for their 8-man season it’s all about working hard.

”They’re eager to learn and they’re excited about it and the parents are excited about it and the parents are excited about it and I’m just loving it. I start each morning with a story and all eyes are on me and they’re eager to hear everything I have to say. I don’t know how long that’s going to last but I’m hoping that it stays. Everything they do they’re excited about it. They’re giving us everything they’ve got and that’s what I’m really excited about,” said Woumnm.

The hard work begins now to build the strong foundation of Baker County football.
