UPDATE: 1 dead in Bainbridge crash

BAINBRIDGE, Ga. (WALB) - One person is dead following a Wednesday evening crash in Bainbridge, according to Decatur County Coroner Kenneth Hollis.

The identity of the victim has not been released at this time.

A Facebook post by Bainbridge Public Safety (BPS) said the accident happened on Highway 84 West near Mike Floyd Paving, sometime around 8 p.m.

The roadway is blocked and BPS is urging drivers to avoid the area.

In a 10 p.m. update to the Facebook post, BPS said that Georgia State Patrol (GSP) has taken over the accident scene and that Highway 84 will remain closed to traffic for an undetermined amount of time.

According to GSP, two semi-trucks were heading in the same direction when one of them made an improper U-turn, and the two trucks collided and caught on fire.

There has been no information released about the other driver at this time.
