ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - You can now charge your electric car when you visit Ray Charles Plaza in Downtown Albany.
City officials cut the ribbon Wednesday for three new electric vehicle charging stations in the 100 block of South Front Street, near the Albany Hilton Graden Inn, on the banks of the Flint River.
City officials said all you have to do is touch the screen, place your debit card on the reader, and plug it into your car.
Assistant city manager for utility operations, Kenneth Stock, said this is something the city wanted to see get done.
“The mayor had mentioned to me that he was very interested in looking at the electric vehicle charging infrastructure. The total project cost $40,000. There were three charging units; there’s one where they call a DC fast charger, which is capable of charging a vehicle in two hours. Then, there’s two-level two chargers which are capable of charging a vehicle in five to eight hours.”
Officials said that this is also the first charging station put on by the city of Albany.
