ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - The City of Albany has named an interim city manager.
The Albany City Commission named Steven Carter, one of two interim city manager candidates, after voting following a Friday closed session.
He will start April 17, which is also the current city manager’s last day.
City Manager Sharon Subadan was recently named the new county administrator for Douglas County. She put in her letter of resignation last week.
Carter praised Subadan after his appointment.
“She’s done everything necessary to prepare the staff. She’s done a really good job at laying the foundation. So now, all I have to do is keep the bus in the middle of the road until we can find a permanent city manager,” said Carter.
Carter did face some resistance. Commissioner Jon Howard said Carter wasn’t his first choice but he agreed to vote for him “in the spirit of cooperation.”
The search for a permanent city manager will begin in the next few weeks.
